  • Position Summary

    Avineon, Inc. is looking to add a Security Engineer to our dynamic and varied team of security professionals. We are seeking a qualified candidate with five+ years of experience in information security, security policy and procedures, auditing, software application security requirements, security compliance monitoring, network engineering, and IT security program management for federal government customers, including in-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.


    The successful candidate will assist in developing and maintaining plans to ensure the security of client's classified networks, including the timely compliance with IT security mandates and standards. The successful candidate will be responsible to oversee and be part of the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of networked information systems required to support the defense of and insider threat detection of the client’s classified systems. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research and development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the network solution.


    The successful candidate will ensure optimal installation of infrastructure equipment, configuration, performance, and ongoing support (troubleshooting) for security equipment to the designated system boundary and possibly for other telecommunications within the client’s enterprise.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    • Serve as the primary HBSS and ACAS Systems Engineer/Administrator.
    • Ensure STIG compliance.
    • Analyze IT security environment and develop threat and vulnerability assessments.
    • Evaluate, operate, and maintain current systems security components.
    • Be current with IC and DoD approches to systems security components and recommend modifications to the current security infrastructure to remain compliant.
    • Recommend future modifications to enhance systems security posture.
    • Support security assessment and authorization (SA&A) process.
    • Conduct security and vulnerability analysis including systems scans.
    • Conduct system test and evaluation (ST&E).
    • Conduct general security controls reviews for continuous monitoring support.
    • Perform security documentation reviews and assist in policy development.


    Education - Experience & Skills Required

    Education, Experience and Skills Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or other related discipline.
    • Five years Cyber Security related engineering experience.
    • Current Top Secret/SCI clearance required.
    • Knowledge of Federal Government regulations such as: FISMA and OMB A-130.
    • Hands on experience with security tools such as: HBSS (v 5.),ACAS, ARCSight, Tripwire, Wireshark, Splunk, Retina, Nessus, Nmap, Tcpdump, NetworkMiner as examples.
    • Solid understanding of classified systems security components to include antivirus tools, intrusion dectection, network traffic, TCP-IP, network defense and firewall concepts and management.
    • In depth knowledge of NIST Special Publications and FIPS Publications.
    • Knowledge of computer system architecture.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and Access).
    • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork skills.
    • Strong requirements gathering, analysis, and organization skills.
    • Strong technical writing skills.
    • Experience using system development life cycle methodology.
    • HBSS, ACAS, and STIG Compliance checker.
    • Must be certified in McAfee HBSS version 4.8 administrator or above and DISA HBSS certification 2.0 or above for administrators.
    • Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with a Top Secret security clearance with SCI access that is current. All members of their immediate family and members of their household must be a US Citizen.


    Preferred Experience/Skills:

    • Knowledge of federal policies and guidelines such as FISMA and Homeland Security Policy Directives.
    • Knowledge of NIST documents, standards, and guidelines.
    • Knowledge of DISA, ARL, and IC Cyber Security tools; policies; and procedures.
    • CISSP, CEH, and other certification especialy cyber security related certifications are a plus.
